8 Places within Walking and Biking Distance of Regency Apartments

You know what they say about choosing where you live: location, location, location. It's important to be close to the parks, shops, and other amenities that you'll frequent. You don't want to live near a strip mall or in a high rise. You don't want to have to drive half an hour to get to the places that relax you – the drive alone is already stressful! You want to be able to walk over or hop on your bike. If your mobility is limited, you should be able to get to a reasonable number of places easily.

Convenience is one of the core priorities of Regency Park in Greenwood. Readers of the Index-Journal have voted it Best Apartment Community for five years in a row. A great deal of that comes from how accessible so many different shops, services, and parks are.

1. Lake Greenwood

Let's start with Lake Greenwood. The beautiful lake is right nearby, making for an ideal evening stroll or morning run.

2. Close to Schools

If you have children, Lakeview Elementary is exceptionally close. So is Cambridge Academy. Greenwood Christian School is a 5-minute drive, so easily bikeable. The same goes for Palmetto Christian. Greenwood High and Emerald High are each 8 minutes away by car, so you can bike there pretty easily.

Daycare and preschool Sunshine House is just over a mile away. With a young child, you're nowhere close to biking and it's too long of a walk for them, so that's probably a drive – but only a 4 minute one. That's a child's entire education within exceptionally easy walking or biking distance.

3. Emerald Place Shopping Mall

Regency Greenwood is recessed from the main road so that residents' privacy is well maintained. It's still close enough that downtown Greenwood is a very brief walk. Emerald Place Shopping Mall is just a 10-minute stroll.

4. Greenwood Premiere 10 Theaters

Of course, this is right near Greenwood Premiere 10. Driving to the movie theater can sometimes be stressful. From the apartments, it's just a 15-minute walk. Nothing's better than walking to see a movie and enjoying all the shops on the way home. Maybe something catches your eye, and you stop at the tavern or grab a dessert on the way back.

5. Fitness Centers

The Regency Greenwood community already has a swimming pool, fitness center, sand volleyball court, and children's playground. For additional equipment and access to trainers, there's a Planet Fitness less than a mile away. If you want to take advantage of the local YMCA as well, it's also less than a mile. You can walk to either, and each of them is an incredibly quick bike trip. Walking and biking is a great warm-up and cool-down for your workout!

6. Greenwood Country Club

Of course, maybe being outside and enjoying the grass and trees is more your style. The Greenwood Country Club is only a half hour walk. It's a beautiful walk, but if you bring your equipment, you'll probably drive it there. That's fine because you'll get plenty of walking done at the club. It has an 18-hole golf course that plays long. The staff is often reviewed as “friendly,” so service is valued there. They also have a very modern tennis facility with 10 lighted courts: 5 hard courts and 5 clay courts! There's also a tennis shop for any repair or new equipment you need.

They also have a pool and children's wading pool. Both are a big hit with kids who want to come along but think golf or tennis is boring. The full-service bar helps the adults through these moments, too.

7. Sports at Lander University

The Jeff May Complex is right across the street from the Greenwood Country Club. It has a baseball stadium, basketball arena, tennis center, and other facilities. Here, you can watch local Lander University compete in baseball, softball, and men's and women's basketball, lacrosse, soccer, rugby, and many other sports.

Lander University itself is a draw for more than athletics. It offers theatre, dance, and other performances.

8. Places of Worship

Many houses of worship are nearby: Connie Maxwell Baptist, Grace Community, Greenwood Church of Christ, Greenwood First Assembly, Greenwood Presbyterian, Greenwood Seventh-day Adventist, Harris United Methodist, New Life Baptist, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic, Providence Pentecostal, Rice Memorial Baptist, Saint Mark Methodist, West Side Baptist churches, Calvary Chapel Greenwood, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are all within biking distance. Many can be walked to, and none of them is more than a 7-minute drive.

Bonus: Close to the Hospital

It's also worth mentioning that should anything happen, and you find yourself in need of hospital services, Self Regional Hospital is a brief, 10-minute drive. It's not within walking distance and you're generally not going to bike to the hospital, but its proximity is something you should be aware of as a resource. A number of doctors’ and specialists’ offices are very close to the hospital, so this means a 10-minute drive for any other appointments or check-ups you may need.

It's not something you often want to think about but having a hospital this close really does make you safer and can help decrease the severity of any injury. It's the kind of thing that helps you keep walking and biking to all the amazing amenities around Regency Greenwood for many years to come.
